Summary: Farmhouse and Family

Key dates:

This late 19th century photograph taken in Clongorey, Co. Kildare shows the family of a strong farmer posing outside their farmhouse. Better-off farmers with this type of house easily survived the Famine. These long, single-storey, whitewashed, thatched-roof houses were a common sight in the more prosperous counties such as Kildare.
