Summary: Bog Village

Key dates:

Bog village in Co. Roscommon was a collection of poor cottages. Land-hungry families had worked hard to reclaim this marginal land on which peasants grew potatoes. Bog village was attractive to these peasants because they could have this land for little or no rent.
