Summary: Emigrant Ship 1

Key dates:

This Edwin Hayes’ painting shows an emigrant ship in Dublin bay which sailed directly to America. This was the exception. Most Irish emigrants fleeing Ireland during the Famine first sailed to Liverpool from Dublin, Belfast, Sligo, Drogheda and Dundalk before crossing the Atlantic.
