Summary: Jaunting Car

Key dates:

Still the most common form of transport at the beginning of the 20th century was the jaunting car. Sometimes called side-cars because of the position of the seats, jaunting cars were in common usage in both town and country. Many middle class families had their own horses and carriages. In 1913 Rev. W.F. Marshall took 3 hours to travel by jaunting car from Sixmilecross to Aughnacloy, a distance of 15 miles over rough country.
