Summary: Donkey and Cart

Key dates:

In spite of the great changes in transport around the turn of the century, the donkey and cart was still a common sight in many rural areas. This photograph, taken at Inver near Larne, Co. Antrim, shows a fish-hawker talking to some customers as she moves through the village with her cart-load of fish. The donkey and cart was also widely used by farmers bringing home turf.
