Summary: Irish speaking school

Key dates:

In 1908 Patrick Pearse, who was editor of An Claidheamh Soluis, founded St Enda’s a new bilingual secondary school in Dublin. The school attracted pupils from all over Ireland. It was different not just because it was bilingual, but because it set out to foster Irish culture and develop a knowledge of Irish legends and heroes.
