Summary: Covenant Day

Key dates:

During one week in September 1912 more than 450,000 men and women signed the Ulster Covenant, a special political document. A huge crowd turned up in Belfast on Saturday 28 September to watch their leaders marching to the City Hall where a special signing ceremony took place. The photograph shows Sir Edward Carson, the Unionist leader, signing the covenant.
