Summary: Masonic Hall

Key dates:

In the second half of the 19th century there was a revival of freemasonry in Ireland. It had changed in that it was now exclusively Protestant in character. Masons had secret signs and rituals and this added to the attraction for many new members. The movement was popular among all classes in Protestant Ulster and the Masonic Halls became important social centres in many parts of Ulster.
