Summary: Gaelic Football

Key dates:

The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) had been formed to promote gaelic games. It was closely linked to the cultural movement for the revival of the language. Unlike soccer, gaelic games were more popular in rural areas and each parish tried to have its own team. The photographs show the Crossmaglen Rangers team of 1911-13, one of the most successful club teams in Ulster and the Wexford team of 1918.
