Key dates:

Some indication of the importance of religion in people’s lives at the end of the 19th century is shown by the building of impressive church buildings. Such as those pictured at Carlisle Circus, Belfast. The church on the left in the picture is the Carlisle Memorial Church which was completed in 1875. It was named after Lord Carlisle who built it in memory of his son.
