Further developments in Ulster’s economy led the leading banks to extend their network of branches outside Belfast. In the early years of the 20th century branches were opened in small towns to serve the needs of the rural community. With tenant farmers having the opportunity to buy their own land there was new business for small branches throughout Ulster.
