Summary: Children’s diet

Key dates:

Poor families living in towns were unable to provide their children with a healthy diet. Children like these were mainly fed on tea, bread and margarine, a cheap substitute for butter. Naturally such a poor diet contributed to the health problems in big urban centres such as Belfast.
