Summary: Creameries

Key dates:

From 1900 on, creameries were established in all parts of Ireland. Dairy farmers sent their milk to the creamery in special metal cans. Horses and carts loaded with fresh milk often queued at a local creamery waiting to unload. The creameries produced better quality butter which was now sold in grocers’ shops rather than being home-produced.
