Summary: Bread Carts

Key dates:

Before the establishment of bread factories all bread had been home produced. Better transport because of the rail network meant that the bread factories could distribute their bread all over Ulster for sale in grocer’s shops. In the bigger towns it was possible for bread-servers like the one in the photograph to sell directly to the public.
