Summary: Tinkers

Key dates:

By the end of the 19th century many households were using glass and enamelled goods, but poor people continued to use tin containers. These were often sold by travelling tinkers who visited market towns on a regular basis. The photograph shows a tinker selling tin pots and kettles in the open air in Portadown, Co. Armagh.
