Summary: Shipyard Workers

Key dates:

On the eve of the First World War, Belfast had the biggest shipyard in the world and Harland and Wolff employed 14,000 men. The photograph taken in 1911 shows workers (all male) leaving the yard to walk home. In the background you can see the hull of the Titanic.
