Summary: Ellis Island

Key dates:

In 1892 a centre for new arrivals was built. It was called Ellis Island and all new arrivals had to pass through here for the completion of all the necessary documentation. They also had to undergo a thorough medical examination. The first person to arrive from an emigrant ship from Ireland was a young girl called Annie Moore.
