Summary: Cohort Depletion

Key dates:

This map shows the cohort depletion for the decades 1881-1891, 1891-1901 and 1901-11. Cohort depletion means the percentage of people aged 5-24 who disappear from the next census. This provides the best estimate of emigration in these decades. Counties in the west of Ireland are clearly experiencing most emigration.
