Summary: Sowing Seed

Key dates:

In rural Ulster there was a tradition followed by farmers sowing corn. The seed was loaded onto a cart drawn by a horse, but the farmer also carried a sowing sheet full of corn over his shoulder. It was thought to be lucky if a farmer had a full hand of corn either to throw to birds or to offer to any poor person he might meet.
