Summary: O’Carolan

Key dates:

O’Carolan was the last Irish professional, traditional harper. He travelled around the big houses for more than forty years. He wrote melodies and verses as a form of repayment for the hospitality he enjoyed. Almost two hundred of his pieces have survived such as the drinking song pictured. It is called O’Hara’s Cup and was composed by him for his patron, Cian O’Hara of Colooney, Co Sligo.
