Summary: examples of Neolithic art

Key dates:

There are no pictures as such from Neolithic Ireland. However, many of the tombs which are common in this period are well decorated with carved patterns. We do not know what these shapes mean but they are possibly connected to their religious beliefs. The shapes which these artists used are predominantly circles, spirals, zigzags, triangles and diamonds. Much of the pottery was also decorated with similar shapes.
