Summary: Timber Trade

Key dates:

The timber trade brought to the Munster Plantation its only manufacturing industry. The main centre was the Blackwater where Raleigh was a partner in a business exporting unfinished timber such as barrel staves and planking for ship building. The success of this enterprise can be seen in the price of land which had an annual rent of 6d an acre in 1587 and had increases five fold within a few years.
