In Co Tipperary is one of the best preserved Irish medieval monasteries; it is also a Cistercian monastery. The monks and nuns who went into such monasteries lived very strict lives. A typical day was as follows: 2.00 am Prayers (Matins) 3.00am Back to bed 6.00am Prayers (Prime) 6.30am Breakfast (bread and ale) 7.00am Meeting in Chapter House 8.00am Meditation or study 11.00am Prayers and communion Noon Main meal 12.30pm Prayers 1.00pm Work or relaxation 6.00pm Prayers (Vespers) 7.00pm Supper 8.00pm Prayers (Compline) and then to bed
