Summary: General Comment about Religion

Key dates:

The reformed religion and its Protestant doctrines were not accepted by most people in Ireland. Cramner had introduced the Book of Common Prayer in 1549 but its use could not be enforced in Ireland. Irish Roman Catholics had welcomed the accession of Mary Tudor and there is no evidence of persecution of Protestants during her reign.
