Summary: Landscape Painting

Key dates:

The military situation in Ireland gave rise to the first example of Irish landscape painting. This was the Siege and Battle of Kinsale which hangs in Trinity College Dublin. This is a form of picturesque panorama with a good sense of perspective. The artist is unknown although it is thought that the artist may have been the illustrator of Thomas Stafford’s “Pacata Hibernia” which was published in 1633.
