Summary: Christmas Carol

Key dates:

Methodism grew steadily in Ireland following John Wesley’s first visit in 1747. It was strongest in south and west Ulster. Many of these congregations put great effort into their church music with Charles Wesley’s hymns being particularly popular. His famous Christmas carol, Hark the Herald Angels Sing appeared in Whitefield’s 1755 collection.
