Summary: Mercers’ Arms Hotel

Key dates:

The square in Kilrea was laid out in 1750. The square is dominated by the Mercers’ Arms Hotel. It was originally used as the home of the agent who ran the Mercers’ estate, and then as a military barracks in the 1790s, before being turned into a hotel. The hotel was popular with fishermen who came to fish for salmon on the Bann.
