Summary: May Eve

Key dates:

May 1st was the May Festival and on May Eve it was believed that fairies and witches came out. To guard against witches people collected twigs from a rowan tree and placed them above their doors. Rural people were also afraid to mix the milk they collected on May Eve with that collected on May Day.
