Summary: Sweat House

Key dates:

A sweat house, like this example from Co. Derry, had a narrow entrance. Once a big turf fire had been lit those suffering from ‘pains’ sat inside to sweat away their pains. Sometimes cold water was poured on the stones to make steam.
