John Dunlap had emigrated from Strabane, Co. Tyrone. In America he began a printing business and soon had a large fortune. He was able to buy an estate of 98,000 acres in the states of Virginia and Kentucky, and in 1784 his newspaper, the Pennsylvania Post, became the first daily paper printed in the US.
