Summary: Customs House, Dublin
Key dates:
Another fine piece of Georgian architecture in Dublin was the Customs House. Like a number of other important Dublin buildings, it enjoyed a riverside location and sailing ships can be seen unloading their cargoes in the foreground. In the late 18th century Dublin was, after London, the second most important city in the British Empire, and beautiful buildings such as this added to its status and greatly impressed all visitors.
