Summary: Robinson & Cleaver, Belfast

Key dates:

Towards the end of the 19th century the centre of Belfast was gradually taken over by commercial buildings as middle class people moved to the suburbs. The department store of Robinson & Cleaver had opened in 1870 but moved to its new store on the corner of Donegall Place and Donegall Square in 1888. The magnificent interior created the right atmosphere for the customers Robinson & Cleaver wanted to attract.
