Summary: Grocery Shop

Key dates:

Better off families in large towns had the choice of a much greater variety of food in their grocer’s shop. Lipton’s Market had outlets all over Britain and they sold lots of imported food such as lamb from New Zealand or beef from Argentina. The introduction of refrigeration made this possible. Fruit from Mediterranean countries was also added to the diet for the well-off.
