Summary: Butcher’s Shop
Key dates:
This great display of meat is hanging outside a butcher’s shop in the village of Newtownstewart, Co. Tyrone. The photograph was taken a few days before Christmas early in the 20th century. To the left you can see turkeys which were becoming more widely eaten at Christmas. In fact turkeys had been made popular by Victorian novelists and before that beef was the traditional Christmas dish.
