Summary: Musical Instruments

Key dates:

The Celtic people enjoyed festivals and fairs where there would be music and dancing. There was a great feis (festival of music) held once every three years under the direction of the Ard-Ri (high king). Trumpets were used and it is likely that harps were used also. Close to Navan Fort, in the lake called Loughnashade, four bronze horns or trumpets have been found and these were probably buried in a religious ritual.
