Summary: Means of Transport used by Earliest People
Key dates:
It is most likely that these people travelled on foot most of the time. There is no evidence of horse bridles or other means of animal transport.
The land bridges between England and Ireland ruptured about 6500BC so, while the earliest migrants may have walked, from this time on some kind of boat or raft would be needed. There is no evidence of Irish boats from this period but those found at Star Carr on Oronsay provide contemporary examples.
