The native Irish usually rode horses without the benefit of a good saddle and bridle and this placed them at a disadvantage when facing the Anglo Normans. The latter rode with good saddles and bits and bridles which were soon copied by the Irish. The first picture shows a native Irish horseman and the second an Irish soldier with his horseboy. His horse has a saddle and he is wearing spurs.
