Summary: Examples of Music in the Period

Key dates:

Many large assemblies, called oenach, were held in Ireland. At these there would be minstrels and timpanists. The favourite instrument was the small harp which rested on the harpist’s knee and was played by the harpist plucking at the strings with long fingernails. The lower classes seem to have had flutes and bagpipes.
