Key dates:

The first book to be printed in the Irish language was produced in Dublin in 1571. It was the Protestant catechism written by Seann O Kearnaigh and was called “Aibidil Gaoidheilgeet Caiticiosma”. The page pictured translated reads: Certain articles of the Christian rule which have been issued with the authority of the superiors of the church and laity of the Kingdom of Ireland, which everyone who is obedient to the law of God and of the Queen should accept, and especially the clergy.
