Summary: Viking Houses in Waterford
Key dates:
Six semi-underground houses, otherwise known as “sunken featured structures” have been excavated in Waterford. These houses were all sunk into gravel to a depth of 1m and the stones dug out were used to form a low bank around them. These houses had impressive stone built entrances which led down a corridor to a rectangular chamber.
Most of the houses in Waterford were clay floored and wattle walled.
