Summary: Planters’ Homes

Key dates:

The ordinary planters in the early 17th century did not have to live in heavily fortified houses. There were three basic types; the English style stone house with slate roof and brick chimney, timber framed house, and Irish style thatched cottage. All three types could be found at the one settlement.
