The Vikings first came to Ireland at the end of the 8th century. This event was recorded by a monk in the Annals : “The Age of Christ 795. The burning of Reachrainn(Rathlin) by plunderers and its shrines were broken and plundered”.
They came first as plunderers, then as traders and settlers. The best example of their settlements is at Wood Quay, Dublin.
