Summary: Griddle and Side Ovens

Key dates:

As may be expected, the bawn, which was the home of the more important planter, had more cooking equipment. Pictured here are pots for use over the open fire, a griddle for cooking oatcake and the side oven which was becoming more common. A variety of plates and bowls was now available. These were adequate as the food of the time was often one pot cookery or stews.
