Summary: Clothes for Men
Key dates:
Warriors were seen as wild men. On the other hand, men of rank and substance in society wore linen, worked leather and treated wool. A long leine was worn and, if it needed to be shortened, it was pulled up by a belt. The sleeves of the leine were long and full. Some wore very short leather jackets which were V necked and tied at the centre with leather thongs. Mantles had shaggy edges.
Few head coverings were worn. The bascinet was made of leather or fitted wool. It was fitted to the skull and had side or chin straps. There were usually no leg coverings or shoes.
