Summary: Types of art in the Mesolithic period
Key dates:
No evidence of Mesolithic art has been found in Ireland. This may have been because these people moved around most of the time and did not have a fixed abode. In the Lascaux Cave in France, rock paintings have been discovered that come from the same time as this period. The photos shown here are from a replica cave Lascaux II which has been created at Montignac which is near the original cave. Lascaux II is open to the public.
