Summary: Clothes of the Iron Age
Key dates:
The clothes and jewellery worn by the people of the Iron Age were very similar to those of their immediate predecessors, the Bronze Age.
Important men wore a short cloak, with a hood and a tight-fitting jerkin. Below this was a loose pleated kilt, usually of a saffron colour.
Women wore long mantles which were often richly embroidered and decorated with gold brooches and clasps.
