Summary: Customs eg Coign and Livery

All the lord shad private armies and, in the Irish custom called coinmed, the tenants had to provide free quarters to their lords and hid followers for a limited period. This was extended to provide food and pay for soldiers and horses and this was known as coign and livery.
Another custom, called cuddie, meant that the tenant had to provide the lord and his family and followers food and drink for four nights, four times a year, while they were travelling round the country.
