These Neolithic people probably came to Ireland as individual groups. There is no evidence that they were involved in skirmishes with the Mesolithic. They were a much more settled, less nomadic people although they may have moved to summer grazing areas.
There is evidence that they made contacts with people outside Ireland. They appear to have navigated further afield and may have had a better understanding of the sun and stars to guide them. From 3000BC there is evidence on the east coast of traffic between the Orkneys, Wales and Brittany. This would have been accompanied by developments in boat building. The fact that porcellanite axes were found all over the British Isles indicates that widespread movement did take place for some people at least.
